LOCAL NEWS AND RADIO REPORT

Condition updates from K2HVE and N1CRR.

K2MD with updates on Volunteer Monitoring System with operators receiving both advisories for unauthorized operation and commendations for efforts serving to further the hobby.

K2HVE finishing work to revive the club QSL card to be provided upon request to operators working club station. Discussion regarding physical and digital versions, printing and postage costs associated with the former. Will need LoTW set up for club (KC2VXI?).

K2MD and K2HVE are initiating a program to give and sponsor talks at the Thursday night gatherings (non business meeting or VE weeks). Topics will vary, but remain radio focused. Joan suggested extending this offer to non-licensed and non-member individuals.

WA2RJP provided an update on the water tower work that is impacting our 1.25m and 6m systems. These will be restored, and a backup 2m antenna installed, once work is complete. Also pending access to Lakehurst to address ongoing impact to packet, 900MHz club systems.

WA2RJP discussed a recent SK, KA2CDF, Jacob, “Jack”, Reisberg, of Whiting. Jim was contacted regarding Jack’s passing in May, and has obtained some of Jack’s equipment.

N1CRR discussed a new experimental project using LoRa (“LOng RAnge”) mesh radio equipment and gave an overview of assembly and use of the devices. The Meshtastic based system is capable of ranges up to ~300 miles.

OLD BUSINESS

KD9BVC gave update on Parks & Rec, plus mentioned FCC is now open again and we have a couple of new or likely hams needing FRN numbers. These can be processed again following gov’t shutdown. Permit rec’d for Winter Field Day. TV and internet services in progress. Thanked Joan for all her effort organizing the club Christmas party.

Club voted in Matthew Turner, new ham waiting on FRN.

Club voted in Ben Bruce of Barnegat. No license yet.
